*A LITE LIGHT HISTORY OF THE 19TH CENTURY
This time frame is almost parallel with the Victorian Era (1837-1901).
Before offering these lamp kits which are unique in many respects,
we studied several designs. Shown above are the first of many styles
and colors we will offer. Throughout that entire century, a great
emphasis was placed on illumination from wall sources. Early in the
19th century candles were used in wall lighting followed by the
improvement of kerosene lamps and as the 20th century approached,
gas came into wide spread use, especially in urban areas.
It appears that most kerosene lamps were table lamps and those on
the wall had to be taken down for refilling. A candle could be
replaced on a wall without the fixture being removed. Gas came
from an outside source.
